Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Child & Adolescent evaluation is completed by a board certified psychiatrist who is fellowship trained in child and adolescent psychiatry. Initial evaluation is 60 mins, including both interview of the child and guardians. A developmentally appropriate interview and behavioral observation is held with children. Common reasons for the evaluations are symptoms of depression, anxiety, poor focus, behavioral concerns including but not limited to disruptive, oppositional or aggressive behavior, or acting out. Included in the interview is an assessment of the child’s awareness of the social, behavioral or academic difficulties inferred by collateral information obtained from teachers and/or parents. Following the interview, treatment modalities will be discussed in detail to include medications and/or psychotherapy.
The assessment also evaluates the family structure, educational or occupational functioning, medical, family, and developmental histories.
